Thomas Tuchel sent some home truths to his Chelsea players in a private meeting after a brutal defeat to Brantford and Real Madrid.
Chelsea boss Conte has insisted that Thursday's rally did not encourage players to play anything other than listen to the views of the players.
Such meetings often offer forum discussions, but this time Tuchel expressed his frustration, pointing out that the team had made a mistake and that the players would have his backing as they tried to get back on track.
"This is not the type of discussion that took place yesterday. It's my point of view," Tuchel told a news conference on Friday. "It simply came to our notice then.
"We take the views of the players very seriously and often consider them, but in the last two games we thought we needed to give our opinion, but we are closed and everyone can criticize.
"We do not point fingers and look for culprits. We will be together. We need to point out some of the points in our unhappy game and point out how we can better defend ourselves. It gets better."
Chelsea lost 4-1 to Brantford in the Premier League last week and 3-1 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie with Madrid.
Hopes are "unorganized" when Chelsea fall to Karim Benzema hat-trick as their hopes of retaining the title as European champions dwindle.
"I think we gave a lot of opportunities," Tuchel said of the club's needs.
"Playing in the quarter-finals of the Champions League is not normal, it was a big night and a great opportunity and we were not at our best, so we were not only disappointed but also angry.
"It's best for me to keep it a secret," he said. We need to stop this direction as soon as possible.
Tuchel is expected to see a more convincing display for third-placed Chelsea in the St Mary's game, although striker Romelu Lukaku could miss Saturday's trip to Southampton due to an Achilles injury.
Chelsea have lost just once in their 13 Premier League games against Southampton and St Mary's, and are unbeaten in their last eight, having lost 2-1 on March 2013.
Southampton have also lost their last two home games in the Premier League, losing just like their previous 18 games to St. Mary (W8 D8).
Chelsea did not have a series of league defeats under Tuchel, most recently in December 2020 under Frank Lampard. Tuchel has managed the most Premier League games without a 48-match unbeaten streak.
Tuchel hopes the club meeting will have a positive impact. But he said: "I do not know if this is a turning point or not. To be honest and explain your reaction to the team in yesterday's process and why this is happening, I think the players need to understand that and sometimes the manager can handle it if he gets angry.
"I had some reasons and I presented my reasons. From now on, no one will be left without support. It's my love and my appreciation for what kind of players they are as a team."
