Thomas Muller says Bayern Munich's exit from the Champions League at Villarreal is "unacceptable".
Samuel Chukwueze, who scored a late goal at the Allianz Arena last night, drew 1-1 and won the Europa League's total 2-1, knocking out the top teams in the Bundesliga for the second season in a row.
Julian Nagelsmann won the first leg 1-0 to try to win their ninth Champions League quarter-final for the ninth time and dominate the match.
Robert Lewandowski drew at the start of the second half, but was unable to capitalize on Bayern Munich's 23-goal deficit.
The Bavarian giants were surprised when Chukwueze denied Chukwueze counter-attack to bring Villarreal to the semi-finals for the first time in the tournament.
Muller knows he can only be blamed for not being extremist at Bayern Munich.
"If we really think about this game without the first game, we should go through it with confidence," he told Amazon Prime.
"It's hard to accept. I do not know what to say.
"After the match, it was bitter to admit. We pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed."
"The nature of Bayern's departure has left a sour taste in the mouth," said head coach Nagelsmann.
"The first leg was the key. We were very good today. It was one of our best games, but in the second half we should have won 2-0.
"It's very bitter. We have very little space. There is always the danger of counter-attacks. It is difficult to create so many opportunities to face such a deep defense.
"If you do not win, you will be fired."
Villarreal will have to compete with Liverpool or Benfica for a place in the final.
